E-learning in South Africa is growing

In the past couple of years, a number of e-learning institutions have gained prominence in South Africa. For example:

  • GetSmarter is a high-touch education company that delivers online courses in subjects such as business writing, Internet marketing and business economics which are accredited by the University of Cape Town;

  • More recently, DAC Systems developed AlwaysOn Learning which is a system that facilitates administration and communication in learning (at primary, secondary and tertiary levels).

It’s all very well and good having these systems, but how has the South African market responded to these?

Very well, says Kirsty Chadwick, who founded The Training Room Online, in an article on News24.

“Our client base ranges from major international corporations sometimes requiring high-end gamification, to smaller local businesses needing a learning tool to help their employees to understand the necessary content.”
According to Ambient Insight, a market research firm, the rate at which e-learning is growing, which was measured across sixteen African countries, is just over 15% from 2011 - 2016. Revenues will more than double – and even triple – over the next few years.
