Internetix 2013: Live in Exponential times

Ronnie Apteker, who started Internet Solutions (IS) in 1993, began proceedings by telling the audience about the Nothing for Mahala project, which Ronnie and a number of the IS staffers are involved in. This project is a film made for non-commercial purposes as part of a national campaign around values and money. It comes out on 4 October at cinemas around the country.

“Nedbank is the primary sponsor, along with the SABC, of a fantastic journey where a bunch of artists and people from the world of NGOs got together and told the story about what it means to succeed in life,” said Apteker.

“There are a lot of rich people all over the world at who everyone looks, and asks: ‘What did they do to get this money?’ You look at some of the new-age billionaires in the world today and you wonder what they did to amass all this wealth.

“Unfortunately, people today aspire to becoming rich without having done a stitch of work. It’s a big challenge in the world today as people aspire to this. The Nothing for Mahala project’s message is that without hard work, you won’t be successful in life: ‘There’s nothing for nothing’”.
