A domestic worker who accused her employer’s partner of assault and calling her a k****r has obtained a protection order against him, reports the Cape Times.
André van Deventer, 35, appeared in Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of common assault and crimen injuria.
He allegedly assaulted Gloria Kente, spat on her and used abusive language, calling her a “k****r” in July.
According to the newspaper, the case has been postponed to November for his defence to get particulars of the case.
Van Deventer’s attorney, Henry Peter van der Westhuizen, said his client would only plea after seeing the case docket.
Kente’s attorney, Peter Williams, said the order, which was issued on Monday, was to stop Van Deventer going near Kente.
Kente said she had worked for the family for eight years and alleged that Van Deventer had racially abused her several times but that it escalated into assault in July.
