A large number of newly-appointed teachers in the Eastern Cape have not been paid since January‚ according to the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The DA’s MPL Edmund van Vuuren said 63 teachers in the Graaff-Reinet district and “a multitude” of teachers in the Cradock and Port Elizabeth districts also did not have their salaries paid. It is unacceptable that employees that have delivered a service are treated with such disdain‚” he said‚ noting that he had taken up the issue with the MEC for Education‚ Mandla Maklupula.
