Move away from traditional ways of sourcing in your recruitment strategy

The current digital age has revolutionised how we source job candidates. It's become so easy simply, for example, to browse potential candidates' profiles on sites such as LinkedIn to see, at a glance, if they would be suitable. With the proliferation of recruiters and hiring managers using digital means to source candidates, most savvy individuals think twice before responding to any job advertisement for fear of suffering a 'cyber attack'. Rejoyce Ndlovu: recruitment team lead at Nambiti Technologies gives some advice to recruiters and hiring managers about new avenues to source candidates.

Be where your job candidates are

As a potential employer, you need to go to those events that the people you're looking for go to. When you go to these occasions, make sure you're involved in a way that will promote your company brand by, for example, sponsoring or co-sponsoring the event.

Get your good employees back

As part of your recruitment strategy, try and get those good employees, who've left your employ, back into your company with incentives that will appeal to them. Some companies will call these 'boomerangs', which are very popular because these ex-employees might realise that 'the grass is not greener' in other companies and want to come back.

However, it is key for recruiters to do some background checks on the employee before re-recruiting them. Find out if:

  • They're leaving their current company on a good note,
  • The previous company was pleased with their work, or
  • They were a loyal employee.

In the market, it's been proven that 're-recruits' come back stronger, add even more value to your organisation and stay longer. HR needs to help keep these individuals by getting as much information about them as possible.

Make every employee a recruiter

As an employer, it may also pay off to make every employee a recruiter. These are the people who know your organisation and understand what type of skills you're looking for. This means they can easily recruit job candidates for the organisation. In addition, employees can talk about what a great company they work for when they go to events and exhibitions, which will attract candidates.

Make employees aware that recruiting is key to the organisation's success and stir up interest among them. An idea about how to do this is to incentivise employees for hires that they refer. Employees can make extra money, the company can spend less on recruitment and reduce the time to fill positions.
