City of Cape Town warns residents about employment scam

EWN reports that the City of Cape Town has urged residents to be aware of an employment scam that is currently taking place in parts of the city.
The municipality indicated that a con artist is soliciting money from residents with the false promise of securing them employment at its Westridge Clinic in Mitchell’s Plain. The suspect has reportedly been requesting residents to pay R150, which would supposedly facilitate the process.

The municipality indicated that it became aware of this when community members from Gugulethu, Nyanga, Khayelitsha and Kuils River came to the clinic under the impression that they had been employed by the city. The city’s Siyabulela Mamkeli said: “They need to report the matter to the police station and also, in future, when they encounter such issues they need to approach the clinic and the facility manager to enquire about such jobs.”
