2013 matriculants to receive added support

The South African Government News Agency reports that basic education minister, Angie Motshekga, has called on parents to give their children who are writing matric in a few weeks’ time added support. This is in an effort to encourage them to achieve higher results and go on to become valuable employees in the economy.

In years gone by, exam papers have been leaked and the education system has been plagued by cheating.

This year, says Motshekga, the department has adopted a new approach to ensure that learners keep on the straight and narrow. They’ve also been asked to sign a pledge to this effect.

“To minimise risk, provinces have adopted a new approach to delay printing [of exam papers]. Storage facilities have been inspected and security improved at distribution points. For tighter control, all scripts will be barcoded and scanned so that the number of scripts received will be controlled at key points of the script-flow process,” she said.

The minister and her department have been working tirelessly to ensure that the education system and learners are prepared for these final exams.
