Update on DA march to Luthuli house about real jobs
Last week, we reported that the Democratic Alliance (DA) is planning to march on Luthuli House to protest against the African National Congress’ (ANC’s) non-fulfilment of their promise to create jobs. The last we heard was that the party was waiting on authorisation from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).
According to John Moodey, leader of the DA in Gauteng, the party met with the JMPD earlier this week to discuss the application. Members of the ANC, the SAPS Public Order Policing and intelligence officials were present at this meeting.
In order to proceed further, the DA needs a letter from the speaker’s office of the provincial legislature.
“The ANC has also made it clear that they cannot guarantee that there will be no violence from their party [at the march], to quote directly ‘as in Nkandla’,” said Moodey.
