5 things I learned at the Global Success Summit

ARTICLES

At the beginning of this month, the HR Pulse team attended the Global Success Summit at the Sandton Convention Centre. The 5 000-strong audience drank in every pearl of wisdom the sample of world’s most successful business leaders shared about how they became successful in their chosen fields.

The overall message that I took home from these two days is that to succeed in anything in life, you have to take action. It’s no good merely thinking that something is a “good idea” and that you’ll carry it out when you have time “one day”. Chances are very good that “one day” won’t happen and someone else will latch onto your good idea, act on it and claim it as their own.

Each speaker had a specific message that he or she wanted to share with the audience. Here are the five speakers whose messages resonated the most strongly with me:

John Demartini

People usually spend their money on what they value. Wealthy people value being wealthy, which is why they have become so successful. The bottom line is that if you want to be wealthy, you have to feel that you are worthy of being wealthy.

Robin Banks

We have an inner and outer world, in other words our inner psyche and the outside world. What usually happens is that we allow what happens in the outside world to affect how we feel on the inside. What should actually happen is that we should handle the outside reality based on how we feel on the inside.

Andy Harrington

To be a very successful speaker, you need to position yourself as an expert in whatever you’re speaking about. In this way, businesses will come to you rather than you approaching the businesses.

Robert Allen

If you want to be wealthy, you need to have multiple streams of income. And if you really want something, you can’t be afraid to make a fool of yourself to get it.

Peter Sage

To succeed in your business, it’s not enough to have tactics: You need to have a strategy as the foundation of the tactics you practise as this will make them 100 times stronger.
