Job opportunities for disabled communities

The City of Cape Town says it has secured job opportunities for about 100 people with disabilities through its Vulnerable Groups Programme.

Mayoral Committee member for Social Development, Suzette Little, said the programme would equip people with skills and was being run in eight districts including Atlantis and Mitchells' Plain. People are trained in administrative work in libraries, reception duties and managing switchboards. Little went on to indicate: "The City of Cape Town has a mandate to create the awareness that people with disabilities form part of our lives.

We make it possible for disabled people to get jobs and we are urging businesses to join our programme and give disabled people a chance to prove themselves. Disabled people can acquire skills, the programme helps them in every possible way from mentoring, job shadowing and job readiness."
