Axed Post Office workers look to Labour Court
Over 600 dismissed postal workers are turning to the Labour Court to get their jobs back. They were axed earlier this year after a long-drawn-out unprotected wage strike across Gauteng, reports SABC News.
One of these workers, Lydia Molokwane, has been unemployed for the past eight months and her family is struggling.
“It’s affecting me because I am a single parent. Where I’m staying there are no schools and children have to travel. So really I feel so sad,” said Molokwane.
The six-week strike led to delays in postal services and angry consumers. According to SABC News, a fake court document started the entire debacle; it stated that the workers were owed significant amounts of money dating back to 1994.
The two people who told workers about the fake court documents were arrested and charged with fraud.
