Sasco possibly to strike against NSFAS
Yesterday, Sapa reported that the South African Students Congress (Sasco) is calling for students at South African tertiary institutions to go on strike against the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
NSFAS’ mission is to give students from poor and working class families funding to attend higher and further education and training.
However, Sasco is saying that NSFAS is not providing enough financial support for these students and, as such, is denying them the opportunity to study further. This is what they want to strike against.
“No registration at the universities until all students are given equal opportunities,” president Ntutuko Makhombothi told reporters in Johannesburg.
