Eskom to be without a CEO soon

Polity reports Eskom is using executive search agencies to find a successor to current CEO Brian Dames, who will step down from the position at the end of March this year. However, the question must be asked if the electricity parastatal is suffering during this period of leadership transition?

During an interview with Engineering News Online, Eskom chairperson Zola Tsotsi said that although private-sector agencies would be used to source a candidate initially, public enterprises minister, Malusi Gigaba, will have the final say about who gets appointed.

In the meantime, News24 reports that Eskom has issued a warning to consumers to watch how much electricity they use over the summer months as the electricity grid is under strain until the new generating capacity comes on line and essential generation maintenance is done.

"Electricity users are urged to pull together over the next few months and use electricity sparingly by 'Living Lightly' this summer," the company said in its bi-weekly status bulletin.

This just piques my curiosity about if, during the leadership transition, someone dropped the ball and the consumer could pay the price…
