Anglo American decides to suspend retrenchments
Yesterday, the SABC News reported that Anglo American has decided to postpone the retrenchment of up to 14 000 workers by 60 days. The decision to retrench was reached because the violent mine strikes last year have made four shafts in Rustenburg unprofitable.
The mining giant stated that during this time they would consult with government and the unions.
NUM's Lesiba Seshoka says, "It is back to the drawing table and try and find the solution to the problems that are affecting the company and other companies. We remain confident that the solutions are there so that these jobs could be saved permanently."
