Helen Wilsenach
ARTICLES

Last week, I told you how the reporting procedures for sexual harassment claims will differ under the proposed legislation. Today, I am going to show you how the regulations surrounding pre-employment testing will change if the Employment Equity Amendment Bill is passed.

Before an employer can carry out a psychometric test, or any other similar assessment of an employee, the test or assessment:

  • Must have been shown, scientifically, to be valid and reliable;

  • Can be applied fairly to employees;

  • Must not be biased against any employee or group; and

  • Must have been certified by the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
