Calling all sports fans: Put your skills to the test and see how well you fare in team building!

I, for one, have never been the sporty kind – I was the kid who, every week without fail, begged my mother for a sick note for sport at school.

And being a nurse, she knew exactly when I was faking so more often than not, I was subjected to the torture that the school system politely calls physical education…

With the scene being set, you can imagine my first impressions of the team building intervention  called Crazy Olympics: “There’s no way I’d recommend this sporting-team building activity to anyone – I would refuse to take part in it!” I thought. However, that’s before I read the brochure and dug a little deeper on the website.

What is the Crazy Olympics?

The Crazy Olympics is a team building intervention hosted by Juiced Events. It consists of a number of novelty-style Olympic activities which are designed to:

  • Motivate your staff;
  • Energise and invigorate them; and
  • Gives your employees the opportunity to let their hair down, have a laugh and build team morale.

How would a Crazy Olympics team building session run?

The session starts off with teams performing a dance, song or chant to boost team morale and gets every team member motivated to perform at their best.

4 activities that you could expect to see in the Crazy Olympics

1.    Tumble race: Team members compete in a relay race and, for example, roll over barrels, pop water balloons and slide under nets.

2.    Flipper: Your employees will have to dress up in costumes, make their way over to an inflatable baby pool and pop balloons. However, the trick is, is that they can’t use their hands during this exercise!

3.    Barrel of fun: Your staff must fill a barrel as fast as they can.

4.    Cocktails of the world: Team members must design an amazing cocktail and present it in style to the judges.

What are the benefits of the Crazy Olympics?

From what I can see from the comments on Juiced Events’ website and those that Anita Barnard from the company sent me, the resounding benefits of such an event are that people get to know their fellow team members better and form a closer working relationship with them. The staff at Juiced Events, during the event, encourage everyone to loosen up, have fun and laugh at themselves.

The great thing about the Crazy Olympics is that people who don’t want to participate in the actual sporting events, don’t have to. Juiced Events has developed activities where non-sporty people can contribute to their team in a not-so-sporty manner – definitely something for me!
