Mining company Lonmin shot to ‘fame’ last year during the strikes at Marikana. However, the company is now making headlines for a very different, more positive reason.
On Monday, Fin24 reported that Lonmin reached 17 million shifts without a ground fall fatality at its Marikana operations in the North West.
"This is even more notable given the considerable challenges that have beset these operations in recent months," said the chamber.
"Also noteworthy is the performance of Lonmin's Karee shaft where, in January, a milestone of six million fatality-free shifts was reached."
