According to the Mail and Guardian, a civil claim has been instituted by a group of pensioners to reclaim an amount of R79 billion that they claim Transnet took from their pension funds.
The Rapport reported that the claim was instituted in the High Court in Pretoria on Friday as lawyers acting for the group of pensioners only recently discovered how the funds were “stripped” in a “conspicuously illegal manner.”
Johan Pretorius, one of the pensioners, indicated, in an affidavit, that the fund was plundered to bolster the company’s balance sheet.
