EDITOR'S NOTE

Good day

We are well into 2021, and even though there is still uncertainty, there is hope. Stephen Hawking once said, "Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change," and with that said we need to accept that things will never be the same again, but to survive we need to roll with the punches and adapt to the 'new normal.'

This new normal has put the spotlight on the HR industry. It has forced us to look at HR Technology, the world of work and HR policies as we try to minimise the dangers that the second wave of Covid-19 brings to those going back to work. However, it's not all doom and gloom because 2020 was a year of meaning and perspective, which means that 2021 is the year we rebuild.

It feels good to be back. Please continue to send us your events and announcements.

Until next week.

OPINION PIECES

Failure to ensure workplace fairness can constitute dereliction of duty

Many employers like using Dereliction of Duty as a disciplinary charge when they want to inflict strong punishment employees because the phrase ‘dereliction of duty’ has a serious and damaging ring to it and the penalty for a first offence of gross dereliction of duty could be dismissal.
